We all need to insure against losses of that which we value, and against potential personal and business liabilities. Why?

1. Because we cannot afford the potential financial loss.

2. Because we may be required to carry insurance by a financial insitution that holds a mortgage or loan on us, or by an owner, part-owner, or lessor of property we are buying or leasing by contract, or by a third party that allows us to occupy their land for some type of use by us. In some instances, such as the employment of staff, we may be required by state law to carry insurance.

3. Because we wish to act in a responsible way for our futures, for that of our families, and / or to those that we come in contact with, or whom we do business with and who trust us.

4. Peace of mind that comes from knowing we are well-insured.

History & Goals of NAHA
NAHA – NORTH AMERICAN HORSEMEN’S ASSOCIATION, a Minnesota registered organization, was founded in 1987 in response to specific needs of the horse industry which were not being met by other organizations. Founded in the midst of an insurance industry crisis which heavily hit the horse industry, it was believed some entity with expertise in both insurance and in the horse business should step forward to establish and recommend minimum risk reduction standards for the industry, based upon its most commonly occurring and avoidable accidents.

Other goals include:

  • To promote the horse and the horse industry.
  • To work for unity within the horse industry.
  • To establish a more reasonable and honest image
of horses and horse enthusiasts to the insurance
    world and the legal profession.
  • To develop insurance programs that could attract
the best insurance companies available and achieve
    long-term commitment from those companies.

NAHA is an informational, educational, service organization which continues to grow and expand its industry services. NAHA supports and promotes a stronger horse industry through unity. It supports other horse organizations, all breeds, and any and all constructive and humane horse uses and activities. NAHA attempts not to compete against organizations and the industry it endeavors to support and serve.

Membership fees go back to the horse industry in simple management of the organization; research to develop and update industry risk reduction standards, contracts, educational materials; awards programs, and response to industry needs and questions. The continuous input, suggestions, and support of members and associates is greatly appreciated by NAHA administrators. NAHA especially thanks members for support of the organization and those who participate in surveys, media monitoring, attorney and expert witness list development, who offer to write articles, and to those who submit suggestions and information to NAHA for review or publication.
